Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin expresses her happiness that the Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, H.R. 1913, passed the Judiciary Committe on 4.24.09 by a vote of 15-12. This bill would offer federal protection for victims of hate crimes who were targeted because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or disability. The bill will come before the full House during the week of 4.27.09.
