Ten seconds in I gave a thumbs up. Matches my experience 100%.

@vapor314 Not condescending at all! It should be self-evident, except that we lack the accurate understanding of ancient western philosophy as being a search for wisdom. We do have this understanding of ancient eastern philosophy because the spiritual disciplines never split from the theoretical discourse. That's why I did this video some years ago. Philosophy is love of wisdom, and that means it needs to include disciplines for life. And yes, I see overlap with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.

I think that you are really onto something. When you start to feel low, you tend to react as if your emotions were a problem to be solved; you start trying to use your critical thinking strategies. When these do not work, you re-double your efforts to use them. You end up over-thinking, brooding, ruminating and living in your head.
Mindfulness helps you to enter an alternative mode of mind that includes thinking but is bigger than thinking. It teaches you to shift mental gears..
I really enjoyed this video. I have been struggling with a way to articulate my own thoughts on the subject. I have just recently been introduced to Stoicism and so far much of what I have learned is right on with mindfulness and self knowledge. Would like to talk further on the subject.

@Humbletraditions Glad you liked it and that it stimulated some thoughts. I'd be happy to hear what you have to say about the subject and what you've learned so far.
