One of the most intense scenes in movie history!

@quinter891 Hello! This film was made in 1975. This scene reflects how electroshock therapy was used then (sometimes). Some hospitals were even accused of using electroshock therapy as a form of punishment, rather than therapy such as is portrayed here. There have been many advances since then, and the treatment is now far more humane.

@quinter891 Back in the 1950's, like when this movie was set in, that is what ECT was like. Modern medicine helps you because doctors know a lot more about inducing seizures to help depression, but back then they just shocked you up and sent you on your way. I don't think it was painful (I'm also sure there were a lot of accidents where it was very painful. Read The Bell Jar), but it changed people's identities and personalities so much that no one ever wanted them.

Nicholsons best role ever.

@quinter891 Thats due to much better medical standards nowadays. Back in the 1960s to 1980s they would do a lot of shit like this.

@quinter891 At least now you think you think you live in Czech Republic. :)
This is not reality. I go through ECT. I have depression and medicine dont work. I remember this:
Doctor give me injection and than i just wake up. Nothing hurt me, i dont remember anything, just fall sleep and then i wake up. ECT really help me, now i want to live, work, i found friends and world is much much better place to live. I live thanks to ECT
