This is my absobluminlutely AMAZING 88-yr-old mother, "Gramma Joy," who has become very deaf and has VERY cramped and arthritic hands (she used to reach an octave and three; now she can hardly reach an octave). None of that can stop her from playing her arrangement of one of my daddy's favorite hymns.

THERE'S A WIDENESS IN GOD'S MERCY
(Frederick W Faber, 1814-1863/Lizzie S. Tourjee, 1858-1913)

1)There's a wideness in God's mercy, Like the wideness of the sea; There's a kindness in His justice, Which is more than liberty.

2)There is welcome for the sinner, And more graces for the good;
There is mercy with the Saciour; There is healing in His blood.

3)For the Love of God is broader Than the measure of man's mind;
And the heart of the Eternal Is most wonderfully kind.

4)If our love were but more simple, We should take Him at His word, And our lives would be all sunshine In the sweetness of our Lord.

  • Bravo!

  • So beautiful, Thank You for posting this:) !!!

  • This reminds me of when Harry and I lived down the hall in Venezuela and used to her you play. Blessings on you! Alma

  • Fantastic Joy - please play for us some more! Thank you so much for your kindness in sharing this. X

  • Oh, that's going to be me when I grow up! :) I have played piano my whole life, have been playing for church services for more than half my life, and have been teaching piano to children for more than a third. I'm teaching my own children to play and love hymns as well as classical pieces.

    I love that she incorporates waltz time and Chopin-esque style into the hymn. For a woman with arthritis in her hands, she plays beautifully!!! Bravissimo!!

  • @atwoneful She's my Grandma! And this is the song I hear her playing whenever I think of her. Her world is wide and wonderful and enjoyable because of the wideness of God's mercy, that she celebrates so beautifully here. (We grandkids/cousins have spent hours underneath that grand piano, listening to her play classics and hymns...)

  • I don't know whose grandma "Gramma Joy" is, but enjoy her joy for a Sabbath blessing.

  • Respekt!!!

  • she's a real MATRIARCH.
