Are pigs cheap as far as upkeep goes?
I hear rabbits are very easy to raise, very cheap, rarely get diseases. I would consider raising some animals if I lived off-grid, a few chickens perhaps. I'd want something that wouldn't take a lot of time to deal with day-to-day.

Are we talking breeding hogs or just raising for butcher? Yes rabbits are easy and low maintenance

Really just raised to butcher for food, not to sell.

Hogs are easy keepers and need a strong fence or hot wire they will graze like a cow on grass if allowed.Pound for pound they have a good return on the dollar especially if you do your own processing.

Yes you need to create a working relationship with your livestock so you can handle and help when needed . I was midwife yesterday helping with the birth process several piglets needed some help clearing there faces to take there first breath.
