  • Footwork is more important than strength. Having said that, the fold block is easily performed with propper foot placement. much like the qb and rb must mesh in the backfild, so must the O lineman on cross blocks of anysort. as the RT left foot leaves, the RG's right foot now has a place to go.

  • Hmmm. I think you can teach this style of blocking to any size lineman, but this most likely works best with above-average agile linemen. Very interesting. The guy downblocking has to absolutely explode off the line to give the fold puller even a chance. I like this, though. The days are coming to an end for OL over 25% body fat. Thee name of the game is agility and explosiveness.

  • @ricobert1 thats so beyond NOT true..

  • most of the time...they do not pull to the backer!!!

they usually pull to the opposite tackle or defensive end!

  • I thing footwork, speed, & agility, is much more suited to Guards while Tackles need to be stronger. Tackles and Centers do the majority of the Down Blocking and your Guards do the majority of your pulling and trapping.

And to the guy who speculated on being unable to execute a down block I can only say that if you cannot down block you cannot do anything on the o line.

  • @ricobert1

haha seriously..the o-lineman at the college i play for are average 270 lbs (solid)..

  • the only thing i am bad at at line is grabing in there pads but other than that i'm really good not to brag

  • the fold block is just plain awesome, and very affective. the out-out, though simple is also very affective for sweeps, if you can get the d-live hooked correctley

  • bro i love your coaching pionts lol

    theyre funny

  • In Nebraska in the mid-80's most of us played 8-man football. Lots of pulling and guard eligible pass plays too, i think thats why the Huskers had good in-state lineman walk-ons. The back needs more patience than speed with a pull. I was an I-back and in an open field i would shove my blockers shoulder to let him know where i was going. I was picking my blockers pocket too. Thanks for the clips and tips too coach!

  • im good at everything but pulling. im tryin to get better at it. since i use to play tackle i never had to but coach moved me over to guard so now i have to,

  • i'de say strength is more important for guards and the center and footwork is more important for tackles
