There are people in the Philippines who maintain their pre-hispanic customs and musical genres (many of them dating back a millenia), such as the Laji and Rohod songs of the Ivatan of Batanes or the musical traditions of the Mangyan of Mindoro. There are also those who were never conquered by the Spanish and hence have maintained their ancient culture, such as the Maguindanao and other peoples of Mindanao and Palawan, as well as the native tribes of the Central Cordillera in Luzon.
