How was Messier cocky? He was proud of his team. He was also proud of himself for leading the rangers to winning the Stanley cup after all those years. He's probably one of the best captains in the history of the NHL and he IS one of the best players in the NHL rankings and stats. When glen sather finally retires, watch out because you never know if messier might step up, and if he does, the rangers will be as good as the flyers and the penguins are now. Anyway, he was not being cocky.
