In this case, the final destination is guided by signaling molecules that bind to the migrating cells. In the example shown, the signaling molecules are SDF-1 and the receptor is CXCR4. This is thought to occur in breast cancer and some other cancer types.

Thanks. We actually have a video up about metastasis that IS narrated. This one is actually 3D. You need to use anaglyph (red/green) glasses to see the 3D effect. This was made for a talk and doesn't have narration but we put it up anyway.

The video shows the guidance of cancer cells to sites producing specific molecules. In this case, cancer cells bearing the CXCR4 receptor are guided by a chemokine, SDF-1.
