  • Thank you Ava Duvernay for sharing your wealth of information. You ROCK!

  • Thank you for showing your stories and for pushing self distribution. Your knowledge on THIS video and other vids that you've done are eye opening and candid. I noticed that you spoke numbers on one of the other discussions. Most filmmakers shy away from it. Keep doing what you do. Tieuel Legacy! in Motion

  • The sound you hear is that of doors opening. . .

Thanks Ava for sharing the info and helping to lead the DIY-distribution way. And congrats on your big win at Sundance for your latest film, Middle of Nowhere! Looking forward to checking it out when it hits theaters.

  • @cocobeeproductions

"Breaks down distribution?" You're kidding, right?

All she did was brag about "creative" she is with her own "distribution." She said nothing of any value.

And Tyler Perry has not helped anyone except Tyler Perry.

This video was 2 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I didn't bother to watch the whole 7 mins.

  • AWESOME!!! :)

  • Real talk = Reel talk.

  • @cocobeeproductions tyler doesn't do that

  • She has to be the FIRST filmmaker I've heard of (other than T.P) who actually dispensed USEFUL knowledge that can help others instead of just soapboxing about how creative she is. The reality of film making is that you still need to eat and pay your bills She breaks down distribution in in a way that is succinct, yet thorough, touching on all aspects of the filmmaking process. Great post. Good Luck Ava!

  • I agree, I love Reelblack, it's free education for filmmakers. They need to put all of their content on dvd and sale it to HBCU communication departments. DuVernay is refreshing and brings hope.

  • This sista is Amazing just from watching this short clip I've learned a few things about the business on independent level...great information.
