Mario Lanza sings Loris' aria ("Amor ti vieta") from Fedora by Umberto Giordano.
This clip is from the 1956 movie Serenade.

Lyrics:

Amor ti vieta di non amar.
La man tua lieve, che mi respinge,
cercava la stretta della mia man:
la tua pupilla esprime: T'amo
se il labbro dice: Non t'amero!

  • Hey HeardThatSongBefore, Mario was very well trained, having been trained for well over a year by Rosati (who had trained Gigli) and also trained by Spadoni. Hollywood intervened in what was an upcoming and extremely promising operatic career. He was very unique to be sure, but not well trained is simply not accurate.

  • Para mi Mario lanza ha marcado mi vida musical y ademas su voz perdura en el tiempo.

  • I'm no musical scholar but I'd much prefer the raw passion and emotion of Lanza than 'style', as you call it. I've heard many, many tenors sing this aria but not one of them comes close to this or moves me as much!

  • he was too good. Too good and not that well trained, must have pissed a lot of the guys who trained their whole lives. Lanza did Lanza, while others did styles. Lanza was one of a kind. It was Lanza style, not tenor style.

  • El mas grande!!!

  • VERY BEAUTIFUL FROM BOTTOM TO TOP

  • A God given voice, there was never better, nor ever will be. I heard them all !

  • only a voice of his quality, could sing this better than anyone. he was the voice...

  • This voice brought me to the opera. It's so sad that he passed so young.

    RIP Mario!
