A little experimenting with a combination of my SM57 (not the usual position), and an Audio Technica condenser mic that was a foot or two back from the cabinet, aiming at the 'port' of my Port City 212 with Eminence Cannabis Rex speakers!

I always struggle to capture my tone in a home-recording situation, but I think I just made a good jump in quality!

I had also dialed in a new tone on the Mark Five, with a heavier sound to it!

Once again, this speaker cabinet is AMAZING. My tone would be insanely harsh if I were to have used the same settings on my old cab!

  • Sounds amazing. Great playing too. How would you compare the port city to other 212 cabs like an orange or mesa recto 212?

  • hey bud, check out my other video on this cab and i do a verbal review, touching on that exact question

  • Hey dude, sounds great. Is that some wear on your Suhr's board around the 5th fret?

  • its filth! i usually clean the fretboard every 2 months or so.. its actually all over the place, you just can tell because of the poor lighting.. you would laugh if you could actually see how dirty it is

  • 1:29~2:08 is so great. What is the song name?

  • just some improv, actually! inspired by the beautiful modded delay sounds :D

  • Hey guys, Shredder steve here, I've been experimenting with flashier t shirts a bit more. This one has a dual sleeve set up, cotton/polyester blend and regular neck width. The logo has sort of a weird position where it kinda just goes all over the fabric in most every direction, certainly off axis. Im just kinda messin around, trying to get a bit more of a metal edge to my look.

  • Sounds great man! How come you dont have the Mark V anymore? I really want to get one and not just for metal shinanigans...and I'm waiting for my S3 patiently as well hehe. By the way, nice outro with Mr. Howe's Direct Injection!!! He really kills it on that one...you did a nice job man.

Oh, and you have the SSC circuit on that S4 by the way? Thing sounds dea quiet.

  • you've got some phase-stuff goin on there, I think.. some top missing.. a bit "closed".. try to place the condencer mic even ferder away from the cabinet. could just be my speakers here that do not sound good enough.. :P great playin man! love it!

  • Didn't care much for the sounds early in the clip but I'm glad I hung out for the stuff you played with the backing track. VERY nice moves. Wish I was that good. If this doesn't offend you it reminds me of some of the stuff Slash plays. Bluesy but fast. IMO it's easier on the ears than the normal shredder fare. Keep up the good work.

  • I like farther micing away slightly off axis with my Mark III too, I feel it captures more of the warmth, depth and "Boogie-ness" of the amp. Excellent tones!

How are the Eminence speakers treating you?

  • woo direct injection, sweet playing.

  • Great vid!!!

What humbucker do you have in the Suhr??

  • woah, what mode were you using for the jam at the end?
