I've always equated food to family. The ritual of eating is a time where we as humans socialize, harmonize, and bond. Food is not just a source of nutritional value, but it is a source that soothes the soul as we eat and associate the food we eat to the holidays, rituals, ceremonies that we participate in. For me, Vietnamese food offers me comfort when I question the sanity of my family, or when I am just overloaded. In sharing Vietnamese food with those that I love, it brings me back to a time where I can remember my family the way things used to be, as opposed to the way things are now, more importantly it helps me to establish new memories that I can reminisce on in a more positive light.
