This is a pretty good example of how not to drum a solo for a belly dancer.

If you are a really good player, you make the dancers look good. You are not showing your self off, you are showcasing the dancer.

Mr Kaspar is an excellent technician, and a very good teacher by reputation, but I would be very hesitant about dancing with him.

He obviously needs to be the pretty girl.

Souhail, you are very good but one thing I have noticed is that you do not keep the beat going. You are not continious so to speak! Your longest solo was no more than a minute. Though you are great, we would like to see you play non-stop. Im sure it would be a great fiesta ;)

1 ore 2 jokes is nice for the laugh and show. But this is over the top. Verry pointless. I didn't enjoyed and im sure the dancer didn't to.

I think you guys are reading WAY too much into it. This is a fine performance by an experienced dancer and a great musician. Nobody looks like a fool here. It is very entertaining. What a shame some people cannot enjoy anything.

@durgaaa So you are one of the people who believe belly dancer is very traditional...if we were down to specifics she would need to learn maqams and know what kind of rhythms were going to be played based on the maqam. She challenged him and this is what you get. Sorry but that would be in Arabic Music, the real traditional way, not the belly dancer perfect world type. I can pretty much make a dancer look good playing boring slow patterns...or be a real percussionist and put out a wonderful show

This video obviously represents a show where HE is the focus, he doesn't need to make her look good if she is unable of keep up with him at the first place. Would a lioness give more chances to a rabbit just because it is a rabbit? Lesson 1: If you are not ready and up for a challenge, keep your ass seated. Same goes to your opinions.

@omarsitonumbereight I see that you are making every one with an opinion "wrong" ! The bottom line here is that the dancer is not very experienced and the drummer is sounding like a Machine Gun ! He is showing off and could care less about working with the dancer. It is obvious to anyone who knows about Arab music. The drummer, though technically good, is ungracious and egotistical, and has no empathy or desire to work with this dancer, only against her. I have heard MUCH better drummers.
