Produced as part of a student project for an introductory library science class at San Jose State. Describes how Wikipedia can actually prove useful in planning academic research.

We were under strict time constraints for this project, so apologies for the rushed narration.

  • When I was in highschool the teachers forbade us to use wikipedia. They said that it wasn't a valid source of information. Wikipedia by it's nature has information taken from other works and includes references and a worked cited page. This being the case wikipedia should not be discounted. It cannot be sited as a single source but is still valid in the research and information gathering and information citing process.

  • Hi bcveen, I'm a librarian at a community college in Michigan and I love your video! May I have permission to show it to my students when I teach information literacy courses?
