iPad battery test part 1 - 3D games

Apple's pretty proud of the iPad battery. How long does it last with 3d gaming and insane settings? 4 hours 56 minutes straight. Awesome.

This is the first part of what I'm planning to be a multi-part series exploring the various ways to kill the iPad battery. Here, I go all out. Full brightness, full volume from the iPad speakers, WiFi and Bluetooth on, push mail and push notifications on, checking 7 mail accounts every 15 minutes. Even Location Services and "Find My iPad" enabled, which updates every 15 minutes as well. I was even downloading apps in the background! In other words, these are settings that no human being on earth would ever reasonably need to use. The worst case scenario for iPad battery life.

The iPad still lasted 4 hours and 56 minutes with 3d gaming. Holy crap. That's twice as long as my iPhone 3GS lasted. And with this bigger better screen. I don't know about you, but I'm impressed.

This video is a time-lapse, showing a minute of gameplay every second. Why? Well, cause I think it looks kinda cool. And it's a chance to experiment with movie editing. (the source video, which I recorded without sound, was 20.2 gb. It took several days of tinkering with settings to filter it down to where iMovie could dub in the sound, and the final result was a 150 meg file I could upload to YouTube without growing old in the process)

@IsaiahAllen03 yep! I figured time-lapsing by a rate of 60 made sense, so that every frame showed a couple of seconds and every second showed a minute.

@ItsPong The video was 4 hours 56 minutes and some change. Roughly 20 gigs, give or take a few. The lols, however, were over 9000.

When will you give us a definitive test of general use ipad battery life? So a little gaming, some wifi internet, some word processing, a movie, youtube videos, emailing, instant messaging on wifi, etc etc etc.

I know, considering your low res video of 12 hours, that it would be a very long amount of time for you, and i can only suggest using videos as a break for you.
