Some background information:
Following Phoebe Snow's brief marriage to Phil Kearns, she gave birth to a severely brain-injured daughter, Valerie. Snow resolved not to institutionalize and chose to care for her at home, which she did until March 19, 2007, when she died at the age of 31. Snow's hard work to care for Valerie greatly and negatively affected her professional career, nearly ending it.
