"tis the gift to be free" Watching the 911 tribute and Yo Yo Ma's performance brought me here. How sad this day is , I didn't realize how much emotion it was going to still evoke as I have been crying for over an hour. God Bless all those who lost their lives due to this tragic event, all the family and friends that mourn their loved ones everyday, all those who helped rescue, clean up and rebuild the WTC site & all those who protect our country everyday. Life is a gift! Let freedom ring!

this song is one of the most beautiful i've ever heard. the cello, the voice, the words sung, and the photographs shown... all uplifting beyond measure. for all thats wrong with the world and the people thereon - here is something beautiful and good. oh that we could realize what is most important while there is still time - the Simple Gifts

I dare say that tomorrow (Black Friday), this song be put in a continuous loop in every shopping mall and big-box store in the United States.
Humility made this country great; materialism made it awful. Turn back, America, before it's too late.

"Shall the nightingale offend the stillness of the night...?"
- Kahlil Gibran.
Paradoxically, this sound of the vibrant voice and the
quivering strings deletes the cacophony in the soul,
the echo of life's noises ringing in our minds.
It deepens the quiet of the soul, leads to solitude,
not in loneliness, but in enchantment into an
unknown distance....
Thanks for the sound and images uploaded.
I have some Yo-Yo Ma on cd (saw him in concert when he was a young 'un in Pasadena, CA in 1979-80 forget exactly what month) - and I have Alison Krauss. So I'm definately looking for this CD/song. Very good. My kid is learning the song in his 6th grade band - seemed frustrated by how it was but now he seems encouraged after watching this video!

Knowing that this video has encouraged your son makes it all worth the effort. Thank you.
