I saw this film when it first came out as I went every Saturday to the cinema as a lad. I loved this mill house and still do. Never had the possibility to find such a place or live in such a beautiful natural environment. Would have loved to grow trees. Trees are wonderful. The film is kitchy and melodramatic but I like it very much and could watch it many more times. Wish it was posted here completely.

If you're impatient, you have no business growing trees.

Absolutely beautiful filmmaking.

Love this movie! I know everyone seems to like Magnificent Obsession better but I've always thought this story was so sweet. I loved the way he fixed up the cottage with her in mind...and it's all in glorious TECHNICOLOR!!

A little melodramatic per 1950s style, but what a great scene and such a wonderful place to live. I like the final scene as well, when the cottage is complete!

That's an amazing theory. Too bad it hasn't a toe-hold in reality.
What you describe can be (with some exceptions) attributed to half the female stars in Hollywood. Second, most of her films she portrays a regular "leading woman."
Plus, she appealed to FAR more than "boring, lonely, insecure women." There's some bitterness in your choice of words, I submit you have some issues to deal with, brownstory. Get help.
