@CassetteMaster I have to correct myselt. It is to keep miniutes and seconds. It is driven by both tape spools instead of one like most use. It keeps a constant speed on the counter so it can keep time.

that song by "yes" at the front of this youtube recording was taken from when the band was live on direct tv back in about 1999 or 2000. I recorded it to DAT (digital audio tape) back then, and it is an amazing live performance that they did.

Very neat Cali! I'm also guessing 70s or 80s vintage. I would like to get the Califone cassette recorder that Burtoncharlessmith has. It's the one that looks like a record player.

That bottom speaker looks like a school speaker. Looks like a nice machiene.

Yeah. The counter itself is designed for minutes and seconds, but of course it does no good keeping time because it turns from the spools of the tape. By the way I put in a servo motor and adjusted the speed:)
