Anyone know whereabouts in Consett the Stobart Arms was?
-
'The softening influence of Christianity' hah, hah!'
-
Well I've been watching it from the Isle of Man, though my grandparents on the other side (not grandfather in the film) are from Consett and I went to the sixth form college there. Tiny world indeed.

Great! I hope to have additional material within the next two-three weeks... fingers crossed.

I have got a dvd with this one plus the Hownsgill 1959 one and two Turners ones from the 50s and 60s..are there actually some more CIC made films?
My dad and several uncles began at Hownsgill together in 1959..and they were amazed to see these...

You know you will benright...I had applied I bit of O level history, rather than actual knowledge of the filmaker..when seeing the whole film recently I had come up with the theory that he had a war wound ..and for some strange reasion I took the references to nationalisation...to place it in the 40s...
thanks for the info..believe it or not I got this link after a Skype call from a good friend of mine from Copnsett who now lives in Southern Asia
Gosforth but from Consett

Nice one H lol! Regarding CIC videos. Someone has been in touch about 5 hours worth of Consett/Works footage they have on disc. I'm hoping to see the material soon and if permissions allow, I'll post it ASAP. If you're interested, take a look at The Time Machine blog on the oldphotoforum site where there are regular local/social history articles (many about the North East). If you like old photos you can also click through to the image gallery and run a search on consett. All the best, Dave.

That's what I love about this medium. People can share thoughts, ideas, videos and photos with like minded folks anywhere in the world... it proves how small the planet really is. I did a small video job for a lad in Brisbane, Australia a while ago and everything was arranged, done and delivered over Skype in less than an hour. I still find it amazing as we couldn't have ever thought about doing such things four or five years ago. BTW I'm writing this in Consett - I bet you're not too far away:)

I think maybe you have got yhe dates mixed up on this one...I got a dvd with this and six other CIC films.I took it from the whole 30 mins of this one that it was made in 1948 after the war and just after nationalisation not inthe 50s

Thanks for the comment. There's no indication of when the film was made so I estimated the date based on the time that Tom Stobart's leg injury occurred in 1956 when he was shot filming in Ethiopia. That's not to say I'm right but I do think it was probably nearer that time than the late 40s. If anyone has an accurate date please let us know.
Cheers,
Dave.
