yes, they did and yes, there were benefits for India but, they (the British, emanating from London under English command) just extracted way too much power and wealth, hence why we are not there today. I know my history, i know that no matter how many BBC/English documentaries you watch, you will probably never know nor understand the wider perspective on the colonization of India (aka the Indian's perspective) until they tell it how they seen it in English.

The British/Scots gave a lot to India - maybe you need to learn a bit of history - or visit India and see they aren't bitter like you.
-
OH, of course thats what it was, "an infrastructure building program", those indians should be so greatfull.
Get real and learn a bit of history before telling me to do the same.

@1scot4scotland no it wemt around colonizing, building ifastructure for later it can benefit the empire and only murdered people who acted violently against us it shows how bad your knowledge is..... you want genocide look at the spanish, germans, japaneese and the United States (native indians and armerican mutilations of japaneese soldiers heads).

I don't think it's your place to say. We will see over the next few decades how much India appreciated being occupied by the English/British.
Indians know, I know, every other post colonial nation who's ethnicity was not wiped out knows and deep down you probably know too. England didn't need to invade, rape and steal from India. If you wanted to save lives with medicine then England could have done that.
It's like expecting someone who was raped to accept it was for the best.

@1scot4scotland lol well its just clear u want to make out britian only ever caused trouble in the world lol u have a waroed view of history of course there was mistakes and things that should not have happened but u tell me when a superpower has ever never made mistakes. Point is that britian gave the Indians a hell of a lot and sometimes u take the bad with the good. yea maybe millions died but we also saved millions, with medicine and briught india forward hundreds of years
-
Listen, it doesn't matter how you dress it up or how much you try to convince others that your version of history is right.
The absolute and indisputable bottom line is this: The British never gave more to India than they took from India. You live in one seriously messed up version of reality if you think the Brits/English went around the world giving and donating out of the goodness of their hearts. They went round colonizing, committing genocide and ethnic cleansing.
-
@1scot4scotland also britian only had the chance to take over because the Indians were fighting a civil wr Indians killed millions of Indians to but they didnt bring trial by jury, democracy, finacial systems and law and order u can thank the brits for that

The British improved Indian public health by introducing smallpox , cholera and bubonic plague vaccinations, establishing western medicine and training modern doctors, by killing rats, and establishing quarantine procedures.
The British also discovered that malaria was caused by mosquito bites.
As a result, the Indian death rate fell and the population of India grew by 1947 to more than 2.5 times its size in 1757.
@Mrparrot73 the British built your entire infrastructure from law to military, invested more money in your country than any1 else, also you should sort out your country before you criticise others about imperialist ways that haven't been around since before you was even born you Muppet, also we had parliament LONG before you did, and each person in united kingdom has better healthcare, human rights , education. a right to VOTE!!!!! than any place in india, so yea blow me.
