This was the first French movie I ever saw and wondered how it would stack up half a century on. Not bad, is it? The casting is inspired, the photography excellent and the story very strong. This is the sequence that made a deep impression on me where the director uses the sound of the wind and the ocean to great effect to express the savagery and panic of the moment.
