  • They raced Indy Cars at Sanair?

I mean I knew they Drag raced out there during the 80's and early 90's.

Did this become the Toronto Indy?

  • Yes Molson moved the race to Toronto eventually.

  • This is about as bad as USAC's screw up of the Indy 500 of 1997.

  • The track is still there, fans are cryin' out loud for oval racing in Quebec.

What the heck is going on? Bring some racing back to Sanair!

  • For the record....the win went officially to Johnny Rutherford

  • u think all rule bodies would have this down. recall in an F1 race this yr where schumacher tried to 'race to the line'. silly. -R

  • what a clusterfuck!!

  • @BSNFabricating

The 2010 Monaco GP is when they restarted the race on the very last turn and guess what, that ended in controversy too.

  • This seems really silly today. Classic though!!

  • When do they ever restart a race at the last turn? Why did CART give Pancho the win?? Sure, he got to the line first, but you can't pass under caution. I've been watching (and involved with) races all my life and never saw a restart at the checkered. JR won it fair and square...

  • MonacoLager: What's funny is, IF this had been a conventional finish, this would have just been one in a string of great finishes that were beginning to be more common in CART in the 80s (Gordy/Mears 82 at Indy, Sneva/Andretti at Michigan in 84, and the Andretti father and son finish at Portland I think in 86 are three great examples). Of course, the pace car proved a factor in other series events, notably Scott Goodyear's mistake in the 1995 Indy 500.

  • This was the Molson Indy Montreal though so a separate event entirely from the Toronto race, as opposed to the Toronto race being a continuation of what had started at Sanair.

  • Rutherford obviously won. Carter made a fatal mistake and he paid for it.
