Actually there's every need for differentiation. A song is a piece of music written primarily for a solo voice, whereas a piece is any work of music. All songs are pieces, but it is inaccurate to call a movement a Beethoven symphony a song. Also, way to berate someone 7 months after the fact.

I never told him that he had no right to state his opinion, rather, I was encouraging him to make what he says look like an opinion, rather than mere truth. "Mozart is better than Beethoven" for example is more like a statement, a truth whereas "in my opinion, Mozart is better than Beethoven" is an opinion, and less offensive. Even better, he could have just said "I prefer Beethoven" and I would never have rebuke him.

You could have just said that in the first place. Remember, you're the one who was freaking out on him telling him he had no right to state his opinion...

Everyone, please stop arguing and just enjoy the music. I don't understand the point of fighting over which is better, classical or modern/pop, there two completely different things from completely different times and both should be appreciated for what they are.

first of all, i was not defending Mozart, i would have done the same thing to a guy who also write a similarly dumb statement: Mozart is better than Beethoven. I know it was a freaking opinion...but it's more polite and less offending to say: "in my opinion, A is better" or "I prefer A" than simply "A is better" (which make it looks like a statement, though it's an opinion). I was simply trying to make people speak more politely, but then again i keep forgetting that this is the internet >.<

LOL at this tough guy defending Mozart on the internet with such passion. That's hilarious. And you realize that saying "Mozart isn't as good as Beethoven" is an opinion, right? That means that ANYONE can say it. His basis is listening to Beethoven's and Mozart's music and thinking that Beethoven's is better, and that's pretty obvious.

that's better, add the "in my opinion" in there, because that obviously show that this is just an opinion of a person who prefer Beethoven's music, not a statement

hate it when people say this, what the hell ARE you to say that, you don't even have a basis to say that, what are you?!? seriously, to say that Mozart is not as good as Beethoven, or vice versa, you have proof? you have enough knowledge about Beethoven and Mozart to judge their music and know which one is better? if you like Beethoven better, then say it like that: "I prefer Beethoven" not "Mozart isn't as good" they're different in meaning, just so to make yourself look less ignorant
