Since I read about it in a bugs guide for Super Metroid, this is one challenge that intrigued me enough to pursue. The bug guide said that there was a way to reach the Wrecked Ship from the back without the Gravity Suit, but it would be very difficult, and not worth the effort. Still I was motivated by curiosity to try this challenge.

The idea is this, you start from the glass tube you power bomb near the Norfair elevator, and you have to get from there to the Wrecked Ship without a Gravity Suit. Sounds easy, but it is fairly difficult, and very frustrating.

Although it was not shot directly after, this video is shot shortly after completing another Norfair Shortcut Run (my previous SM video), I have everything I collected there with me, nothing more. Although I could have side tracked a little, I didn't get any pickups through the run either.

This whole thing can be done on a real game copy, though it's a little easier on an emulator since there are a couple spots where a mistake will trap you, Nintendo never really intended for a player to get this far without the Gravity Suit. I saved a state after the grapple room, but I did not reload it because I did not mess up.

The reward for completing this? Nothing. There is no point in doing this, except to skip a missile tank. Unless you are compelled to do this after watching, I don't recommend actually trying it, especially if you don't have mastery over most game mechanics.

Again, remember, I am not trying to look like the greatest player ever, I'm really putting this out as a demonstration. If I was trying to be the best, I wouldn't have screwed up.

Interesting note, after you beat the boss in the Wrecked Ship (forget it's name), the door at 12:16 becomes a red door, despite me having already gone through it.

  • I dug out the SNES a few days ago, and Super Metroid was the immediate go-to-game.

15 years old, and with more re-playability, possibility, and gaming awesomeness than a lot of what comes out today, so good

  • Um *cough* Brinstar *cough* Norfair.

Not Bonister and nonfire you twiitt!
