Yes, everything is completely backwards. The government doesn't "permit" us to do anything. WE PERMIT THE GOVERNMENT TO EXIST. But since we're so backwards, we stupidly allow the government the ability to require and enforce permits. Most people's perception is that the government allows us to do certain things, but in reality it's the opposite. Somehow we've forgotten that.
