This documentary, part of the 20th Century With Mike Wallace series from CBS News and the History Channel, examines the 1979 fall of the Shah of Iran and the hostage situation that arose from the turmoil. Narrated by series host and CBS News correspondent Mike Wallace, this episode looks at the preceding and following events of the fall of the Iranian leader, with a detailed study of the 444-day hostage crisis where many of the hostages were Americans. 20th Century With Mike Wallace features footage of interviews with many of the people who were intricate players in these events, including President Jimmy Carter, Ayatollah Khomeini, Anwar Sadat, and the Shah. Historians and political experts talk about how those events of the late '70s and early '80s are still affecting relations between Middle Eastern countries and America's relations with the Middle East.

  • Mike Wallace is such a absent minded, biased, rude and disrespectful man. He stands before the EMPEROR of another nation, a nation with a 7000+ year history and he patronizes its leader, suggests he may have been "too busy" to notice things, and say that he is candid & instigative? Mike Wallace is exactly what his majesty was speaking about, wallace furthers american and jewish interests via propoganda. His Majesty was indeed right and ahead of his time. God Rest His Soul!!

  • @rexirexi like your mom.

  • The Americans, Wallace included left so much good in Iran and focused on a few things- like the Shahanshah once said, ''you compare us to utopia''- they focus on the smallest issues in Iran and enlarged them. On the otherhand, the so called mullas kill thousands of people and yet people are still willing to 'give them a chance'. God rest his soul in peace, javid shah.

  • @fraizer57 So true. The mullahs court cases against the Pahlavis showed how absurd their claim was that the Shah had stolen "billions".

  • @expeedy720, U can lie to your filthy teeth but U R a shameless liar. Mullahs took the Pahlavis to abot 12 different courts in USA & Europe & lost them all & that is a fact. Shah had no monitory interest he worked hard for 37 Yrs to transform the lives of a backward nation & had it not been for asshole ungratful stooges like U the Russian backed communist & British backed Mullahs he very nearly did it. Have tha balls to say which 1 R U a Muslim terrorist or a leftist Iran hater?

  • In 1979 Jimmy Carter & the filthy evil mean greedy Brits finally managed to do what Nancy SK Lambton the anti-Iran British spy was recomending since 1940's. She used to demand the overthrow of the Pahlavi king & the establishment of an Islamic regime. They can call it a revolution but the overthrow of the sainted modernizer Shah by the west might be a taboo subject in the west but it isnt to us long suffering Iranians. Please visit my UTUBE channel to see why UK USA overthrow the Shah in 1979.

  • Mike Wallace, go interview Ahmadinejad the same way you interviewed ShahanShah Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi, don't be suprised when the mullahs throw you in jail, call you a non-believer, rape and eventually kill you.

  • I used to have copies of every 20CwithMW, only to have them thrown away. thanks for posting

  • so much nonesences, general toofanian was the arme dealer for iran and he used to pay comission to the shah, the king used to take comission from his poor people and send it to foreign banks, that was one of his fast ones on his country, and nobody can argue with that,.
