  • saturated fat is good for you as long as you get it from a good source like grass fed beef, not fast food.

  • @jreily88 Saturated fat's saturated fat. Doesn't matter where you get it from, it still has the same effects. However, many fast foods are likely to contain other harmful things (like trans fats).

  • @kamikazecookery

no not all saturated fat is the same. Your brain tissue is composed of about 60-70% saturated fat. Saturated fat, along with cholesterol are the precursors to your hormones and it's what provides structural ridgidity to your cells. The health organization likes to make claims that saturated fat is bad for us, when they have absolutely no evidence to show for it, other than fast food. Even the whole lipid hypothesis that came about in the 50s was flawed, yet it's stil used.

  • @jreily88 Uh, I think that you might be coming on a bit strong with the "absolutely no evidence to show for it", but I completely agree, saturated fat is not a universal evil.

  • @kamikazecookery

I apologize. There is some evidence to show that saturated fat is bad, but that's mainly in fast food or processed foods. However, in my opinion, there isn't really enough evidence to show without a doubt that saturated fat is bad no matter what. Two perfect examples are the masai tribe in africa and the inuit in the arctic. Both of these cultures' diet contains nearly 100% meat and yet they have some of the lowest cholesterol levels of anyone in the world.

  • @jreily88 I'd agree with pretty much everything you say here, yeah. Indeed, the ongoing debate over saturated fat is one of the most interesting foodie/nutrition crossovers right now. (Particularly when you take into account the fact that the link between high cholesterol and better mortality outcomes that some researchers have noted).

    Fascinating stuff! Thanks for posting.

  • YOU'RE A SHIT ARTIST.

  • @kamikazecookery

Another thing. Your body cannot assimilate or absorb calcium or vitamin D, or Omega 3s without saturated fat. If you don't believe me, just look at all these women, not just those in their 60s and 70s, but some even in their 40s who are on low fat diets and taking calcium pills, thinking they might actually work.
