DOD standard is that the hard drive has to be cut up into 1mm cubes at the biggest to avoid retrieving any data.

It can still be recovered via electron scanning microscope methods.

More secure = heating all the platters 100% of their surface area till all magnetic patterns are destroyed. High heat rearranges & destroys magnetism.

It also melts metal.

No recovery possible.
