Star Wars Spoof (10th Anniversary Special Edition)

This 1993 spoof was originally a competition entry run by CVG Computer and Video Games Magazine. You had to re-enact a scene or scenes from Star Wars, though I also attempted to express filmmakers struggle for independence against the Hollywood system. The 'force' became the 'Lucas', the 'Empire' became 'Hollywood' and the 'Rebels' became young new independent filmmakers. The entry was successfully published in the magazine, but the prize (a trip to California to tour Skywaker Ranch) fell through. In 1997 it was eventually seen by Rick McCallum, the producer of the prequels, who told me that I could go to Skywalker Ranch anytime. In March 2005, while attending a film Festival in Tiburon, I finally got the tour. We then re-mastered the film in 2003 adding digital effects and the 'Phantom Menace' to Luke's screenplay to then spoof the 1997 special editions.

The Good: Pretty creative and well put together

The Bad: The whole idea and plot was kinda lame and not very funny. Alot of scenes just kinda seemed to copy scenes from Star Wars word by word and shot by shot and nothing really that different or interesting was done with the material. The acting was just ok.

Now I know how it feels to work really hard on something and have someone come along and just shit on it. So I'm sorry. I'm giving you my honest opinon and constructive criticism :)

Maybe you should read the description before commenting. It was a competition to re-enact Star Wars. It was supposed to be word for word and shot for shot with just a few comedy lines thrown in to explain the fact we were flying cars instead of spaceships etc. It was made in 1993 so criticism, although welcome, is about 16 years too late!

I still have the film but its in awfull condition, i'll see if i can get it uploaded, Like you we were planning on adding modern effects etc but its so bad when i try capture it too many frames are dropped. I have to say though yours is way better than ours, i should your film to my co star heh heh the other night and it brought back so many memories ha ha. i'll be in touch and see if i can get you our film.

Ha i knew it was under leeds bradford airport, we also filmed in leeds (pudsey) and filmed ours totally in our garage, our film is the one with Chewbacca as a roled up carpet with a wig on and a drawn mouth, were all sat in a millenium falcon cockpit that we built out of cardboard and some fairy lights. I think in the magazine thers an x-wing pilot and a stormtrooper getting his orders though i could be wrong. The review slates our acting a bit and mentions some bad lethal weapon references.

Hi I also entred this competiton and had my film reviewed in CVG aswell, i remember your review as it was tipped to win claming you were film students. We were apparently on the short list too, shame it fell through but great to see you finnaly got out there and had your film seen. GREAT WORK. Do you still have the copy of the magazine i'd love to see the reviews again. Cant believe it was nearly 20 years ago.
