Nice, guess I need to upgrade from my ridgerest pad and get a thermarest.

Maybe it costs a little, but IMHO, it's worth the price.
When you already have an auto-inflating mat in the backpack for camping or any other reason, the chair kit is so light and small that it adds versatility to your mat without adding a lot of weight!
As I've said, it works with non thermarest auto-inflating mats that are 50-51cm wide. And you can find that chair kit for other mat's width.

I have seen those before. I thought it was for hunting when you are up in the trees you use that on the metal seat to give you some padding but it looks like it works just fine on the ground

Well, I'm not sure this has been design especially for use with treestands, but I'm sure it could work well.
But in cold weather, the chair really insulates you from the cold ground and protects your back from cold too. I must say this chair is a really nice thing to have during hikes or as a "comfort piece of equipment" for bushcrafting, long trailwalking or even animal photography!
I love it!
