  • Can you tell me where I can buy a good supplement for my Underactive Thyroid. You say that one should not take more than 3mg of Iodine/Iodide, but a website I had found that has the Iodine/Iodide plus Selenium recommend a dosage of 10mg and to increase it if required. I am also concerned about where the Kelp is derived from as I have concerns about the nuclear fallout in Japan. Can you please advise ASAP?

  • @francesca27545 Hi.... just search Iodoral online. This includes the synthetic forms so there is no risk of contamination.

  • @drahaskell1 - Thank you once again, but I need to ask you about this synthetic form. I found one that says total iodine/iodide 12.5 mg, iodine 5 mg, and iodide (as potassium salt) 7.5mg. What dosage should I take as I have so much fluid retention and possibly fat as well that my back muscles are really sore? Also, can you tell me where does this iodine come from? And, is this combination similar to using Iodized (cooking) Salt?

  • @francesca27545 Yes, this is the right type to use but I think it is too high of a concentration unless you know that you do not have thyroid antibodies. If you do not then a safe dose is one-half tab a day along with selenium methionine at 200-400mcg daily.

If you have breast, thyroid or ovarian cysts then go with 1 tab a day.

  • Dr. Haskell... You do not understand iodine or the thyroid. The woman you mentioned with a TSH of 107 was not caused because of the iodine, but because of hashimotos. Hashimotos need selenium + iodine + gluten-free diet to suppress the hashimotos antibodies. You do your patients a great disservice for not learning more from the iodine researchers aka Brownstein, Flechas, Abrahams, et. al.

  • @richmond8334 I understand thyroid conditions more than you assume. She was checked for antibodies and they were negative. Are you a clinician? Do you personally have any lab results to prove what you speak about? You are likely just reading what others have published. And the idea of suppressing antibodies makes no sense at all.

You do a great disservice to yourself by not being more open-minded.

    Dr Haskell

  • @drahaskell1-Thank you very much once again. I have placed an order for Iodoral as per dosage mentioned above.I will start with half a tablet to see my response and then increase it to 1 tablet per day as I have difficulty swallowing due to a small cyst in the thyroid. I will also take Selenium Methione with it, and rest assured that I do not have Hashimoto as test results were negative. However, I remember reading about Zinc some time ago that said it should not be taken for more than 3 mths.

  • @drahaskell1 - Thank you very much for your prompt reply, but can you tell me where I can buy Iodoral from and do they sell it internationally? Also, how can I be sure that the Iodine has Not been contaminated by nuclear fall out from Japan?

  • @francesca27545 You can use the product Iodoral which has both iodine and iodide taking about 1/2 tab every day as long as you don't have Hashimoto's or Graves (blood test needed).

There are two other nutrients required by you thyroid to make thyroid hormones. One is selenium (200-400mcg daily) and zinc (15-30mg daily).

    All the best,

    Dr Haskell

  • @indicasativafusion I'm sure not everyone is the same....you're really taking a big risk.

  • For those of you who want to know about iodine from a thyroid cancer survivor (who is also a patient of Dr. Brownstein) check out her site: naturalthyroidchoices[dot]com
