THE main feature of the 2006 NAS Oceana Airshow involves the fleet. This year, four F-14 Tomcats from VF-31 "Tomcatters" join four F/A-18F Super Hornets from VFA-11 "Red Rippers", two F/A-18C Hornets from VFA-34 "Blue Blasters", two F/A-18C Hornets from VFA-87 "Golden Warriors", and a single F/A-18F Super Hornet from VFA-106 "Gladiators" in a fleet flyby, a sneak pass, part of the Super Hornet demonstration, and an air power demonstration, culminating in bringing back all participating aircraft and having them taxi in front of the crowd. Since it was the Tomcats' "last airshow stand", they did something very touching. For more videos and information on DVDs, visit http://www.stevesairshow.com .
I lived close to Oceana NAS when I was a kid in the sixties. I vividly remember the F8 Crusaders, hoards of A4's and F4's, A6's and A7's and those E2 Hawkeyes. I remember seeing the Blue Angels when they flew F4's. They were louder than any other airplane as I remember. It was truly an air show every day.
