I play slap bass and it is possible to get slap tripplets overhand while getting the notes. I have only seen one other bass player besides myself play the overhand slap tripplet. I love the back off the bass slap also. Great stuff. :)

The video was reversed on purpose. This clip was called a "soundie" and was played back on a machine called a panoram. The image was shot onto a mirror then onto a screen. When viewed this way, the image was corrected.

That's a wonderful clip! However, if you watch listen to the bass part carefully you'll hear notes that could not possibly be produced by what the bass player is doing onscreen. I think they just wanted some extra visual dazzle.

As explained on Wikipedia: soundies often recorded audio and video separately. The bassplayer most likely could go nuts like that and still play it... it's just that what we see here is not recorded at the same time as the audio and therefore they are sometimes desynced.
