Salva Nos Stella Maris-Sai'ba a nu'avutri,'o stella du mari. Oh Save us,Star of the Sea!(The Virgin Mary)The first is in Latin-the second in Sicilian.According to my father,it is an old Sicilian fisherman's invocation for aid from the Virgin-Stella (or Stidda) du mari,when there are storms and fog at sea.Sicilian is a dialect of LATIN,not Italian as is commonly,but wrongly,believed-hence the similarity.BTW,where do these GERMANS come up with this?Good work,ladies!
