The CEO of the United Nations Foundation Kathy Calvin talks to Al Jazeera-English about the situation in Haiti six months after the devastating earthquake that killed more than 200,000 people. In February, Calvin traveled to Haiti to learn first-hand about the country's needs. Six months later, the UN Foundation continues to work closely with the United Nations and the donor community to assist the people of Haiti in long-term recovery efforts.
The United Nations Foundation has raised close to $4 million for the UN's relief and recovery efforts in Haiti. The more than $250,000 raised through the donations of AMERICAN IDOL viewers was granted to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) for maternal health kits, as well as solar street lights to help keep women safe at night.
