  • Right, sure, because all parents are morons who are desperately clinging to over the top stupid TV shows rather than deeply loving their children for who they are. Really, until you are a parent, don't assume what it is like to be a parent, or that parents are going to take their cues from TV land. That show tried to present two diametrically opposed sides to a multidimensional issue, and it didn't work, don't use it to put down the intelligence of parents.

  • I think you're completely misreading what I am saying here. I certainly never meant to attack the intelligence of parents, but people like Dr. Phil do have a surprisingly large following. I simply expressed displeasure with they way this was handled on his show... I certainly never said anything belittling all parents.

As someone who is actively planning on having children in the near future that would just be silly.

  • That dr. Phil show was a bullshit. I felt sorry for the mother, who had to listen to this bullshit about how being too close to a son makes him want to be a girl. This so called doctor is so wrong.

  • I need help... Please give me advice

You see, I was born in 1993, but I look like I'm born in 1996. Everywhere I go, I'm treated as an 18 year old, but deep down inside I feel like a 15 year old. I am discriminated everywhere I go. I am not allowed to play for my U-17 soccer team even though everyone is bigger than me!

In the USA, people can change their sex when they feel like they were born the wrong gender. Well I feel like I was born 3 years too early! I am depressed and am very sad...

  • I really love to see grounded, homosexual people who can express themselves, their points of view and feelings from past experiences the way you do, it really opens people's eyes to a reality that's just as obvious as any other, showing that we're all equals and there needs to be no judging of anybody for their sexuality. My respects.

  • hopefully people know Dr. Phil is so very close minded. but at least you got the mom who straight up called out the bull-shit belief/theory that a child's gender identity is something his/her parents can change or even influence. her personal story proved that no matter how badly she wanted her son to be a boy, she simply couldn't change his identity.

    glad you shared this though[:

  • hi, im bi-sexual, but i have a friend who is currently about half way through the male to female treatment, i support it entirely, i myself would not do so, but i do support it, and i am glad you and my friend are not afraid to be proud of what you chose to be, i salute you, and some parents are very thick headed in their beliefs like yours were, but its happy to know there are a lot of parents out there who support this type of thing, many dont like the idea but they support it, youre awesome

  • @infpdarling You would be surprised at the information parents cling to in a crisis. Your whole world is put upside down and you grab for ANY information to stabilize yourself, even if it means the world makes sense to you for only minutes. So yes, people cling to anything, including celebrity tv therapist.

  • (cont'd) you're finally able to be your true self, you sound like you'd make a damn attractive man lol

  • I think it is absolutely disgusting that such a thing should be allowed to spread to parents through the media; to me, it's about as wrong as trying to tell parents that you should try to force your child to be straight. I bet Dr. Phil wouldn't have a special on THAT, in this day and age! At least I hope not. It does go to show that gay rights have come much farther than transgender rights. Oh my god! Spell check doesn't even RECOGNIZE the word "transgender".

On another note, while I'm glad

  • @ubermom

I think your overly simplify this. As a gay man "a homosexual", my gender identity is different from a straight man's gender identity. This is why I'm sexually, and emotionally attracted to men.

With a trans person their gender identity is also different from that of a gay person as well as a heterosexual person. It's the similarities that gay men, lesbians, and transgender people share with regards too gender identity being something other than heterosexual. That makes us allies.

  • Thanks for being so articulate and honest about, your experience as a transgender person. It's these kinds of testimonials that need to be all over the TV. Visibility is the biggest learning tool for society… Things have greatly improved for gay men and our lesbian sistas, in the past 27 years since I came out. But, there's still a lot of educating that has too happen in order for our trans-family members, to be respected, loved, and supported.
