Some of us fish bridge pilings for tautog, sheepshead and spadefish. The damages done by running into and rubbing against pilings are pretty significant.

The manufacturers won't care because there is no need for investment for a small group of anglers

So we started thinking about protecting the kayak from the barnacles and rough surfaces of pilings.

I had some ideas and I prototyped to see if my ideas will really work when I have the right material.

I learned after prototyping:

If a tape like product is used to protect the sides, the width of the tape must be 8 inches minimum

If side molding such as Vinyl Rub rail is used,
the molding must be at least ½ inch thick

Also made me I should test Herculiner (Truck Bedliner)
