I have a 38' gaff cutter myself. I think that the gaff rig is both aesthetic and 'sensible' It only takes me a few seconds to lower the sail if I want to put a reef in when sailing solo. I adore the gaff cutter rig:)

A splendid and beautiful working boat design. Sails beautifully too!

Hello from Tokyo. Beautiful boat. I ride a Van der Stadt Pion 30, also an old boat, made in Japan but designed by the famous Holland designer.

That looks as pretty much near to bliss as you can get in this life. Is she a drop keel ? how well does she sail into the wind ? Very nice and thanks for the posting

She is long keeled. If you search for the GALA website Gaffers and Luggers Association you will find more photos.
The wooden Falmouth Working Boats or Oyster Dredgers have external ballast keels but the GRP hull has internal lead ballast. They are 28ft but are very roomy below, more like a 35 footer. 600sq ft of sail with 8.5 tons displacement. She sails 30 deg to the apparent wind max speed I have had under sail is 8kts. Typically 5 to 6kts.

What class is this yacht please?

She is a Heard28. Hull taken from a Falmouth working boat, used for dredging for oysters under sail in the Fal Estuary. Lots of photos on GALA website (Gaffers and Luggers Association).
