@cometmann They said Gloria fizzled out, but when i compare her to Irene, she was much worse. The winds were far more sustained and of much higher velocity. Wind gusts in your'e area were near 100 mph in Gloria. Just south of you, Ocean city measured sustained winds of 81 mph gusting to 101 mph. Irene brought winds no higher than 69 mph to your'e area.

@TheWeatherchannelman Your'e right. Where I live, (Springfield, Massachusetts, Irene diminished to pockets of rain and intermittent gust of wind. There was so much hype over Irene, and she turned out to be nothing. We lost two trees and an awning in Gloria. The wind was sustained, and constantly blowing, unlike Irene. Though the wind was of much higher velocity. Gloria hit Long Island with gusts approaching 115 mph, Irene brought gust no higher than 60-70 mph, with a 92 mph gust recorded.

I was 8 years old. Remember it well. It hit on a friday at about 1PM(around Providence, RI). Our house and yard did suffer some damage but it was mostly our yard. We did have a tree fall on the house but didn't do much. Very lucky. We were hunkered down in the basement.

Irene was nothing compared to Gloria, Irene had wind gusts as high as Gloria's but not sustained.

@Fanik10 This was from Whiting, New Jersey.
I remember the news saying that Gloria was a bust, but we really got whacked.
