Interesting BBC film concerning the parallel development of modern Islamic radicalism and Neo-conservatism. Details the rise of the latter movement and its masquerade as traditional conservatism to garner support and acquire power. This film also discusses the development of the current Arab political ideology and shows how both movements originated from the same basic philosophy: masses are more malleable when they are living in a constant state of fear.

  • How hypocritical of Qutb to despise the torture he personally suffered as a product unleashed exclusively by the 'secular' West when so many theocracies throughout history--including those run by Muslims--have openly and enthusiastically used and supported torture as a means of forcefully enlightening the masses.

Just another dreamer clinging to an aging religion in the modern world, with his beliefs only hardened and carried on by intolerant government power.

  • 'keeping individualism in check' :59 . Sounds like the movie 'Equilibrium' is what Qutb desired. And how clever of him to don the Hitler mustache. I'm not quick to deride this doco, just quick to comprehend it.

  • @kakashi76767 I bet that you wanker think Charlie Chaplin is Evil too for having that Mustash before hitler

  • ok, that guy who inspired bin laden has a hitler stash. what is with that? does it make you evil? maybe it is actually a small catapillar that takes over your mind somehow.

  • Thats done it for me the moment they said osama bin laden I stoped watching it and posting this comment which is brainwashing you on terrorism which this program wants you to believe religion on all sides and mankinds greed for wealth and power and control 911 inside job a 4 year old can work this out and as for this program its complete propaganda period.

  • @weezyheezy No, the programme says of 'Gunsmoke' of which Leo Strauss particularly enthused, that it presented a simple black and white view, a 'Good' vs 'Evil' kind of distinction, and thus was one such means of the kind of myth-making (even if not really true, he seems to have thought) he considered necessary. Note how different is what the documentary says, compared with the way you try reduce it to something else entirely. Play it back and you'll hear for yourself what is actually said.

  • Yea those dastardly producers of 'Gunsmoke' were just trying to indoctrinate the youth of America and Egypt into mindless consumers.
