Could be an artifact of having to lay down a drum beat with singing at the same time, but in listening to this back to back with SP's 1983 Budokan Japan set, you can see why Perry is just the better singer. Something lacking in Deen's nuances, shading, timing, and styling, and seems to be just one register lower, as well. It still is a great job that he is doing, but to me, journeyman, versus Steve Perry being the master singer...

No one can ever replace or come near to Steve Perry, but I will admit that Deen is very, very talented. And frankly, though I give Arnel his due, Deen does a better job on these songs-and since Arnel doesn't have to do a complete set by being spelled with Deen, they aren't grinding him into the dust and making him 'toast' as they did with Steve.

simply kick ass performance. I think this is Deen's crown jewel.

much better than arnel saw him do thses songs in person it was awesome
-
tremendous song / voice. anyone who drums too is ok in my book

Deen will tell you himself that he can only sing 3 or 4 songs a night before he is vocally spent....probably a slight exaggeration on his part but if you've never sung lead vocals 4 or 5 nights in a row, much less JOURNEY lead vocals, a tour is not a good testing ground to see if you're able!:)

Respond to this video... cool

dear jesus. can you say talent!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!? oh my god....i'm burning my drums.......i'll never be able to pull anything like that off. Deen your my idol, great job:)

it'd be great to see him handle something other than a slow 4/4 and do that
I completely agree that Deen should front the band and Steve Smith should rejoin as the drummer. That made more sense!
