Are you my type?
A 26 year old woman in kidney failure is using social media to find a living kidney donor.
The quest for a person needing a kidney transplant is complex.
Waiting for a deceased donor kidney can take many years. People die while waiting, even on dialysis. The health system is not set up to help a patient who needs to find an alternative, a living donor. Be positive, have hope, but take action. Reach out for help, and let people around you advocate for you.
Living donors are making the difference - their importance cannot be understated.

I donated my kidney to a stranger in 2011. While there are risks (as with any surgery), the medical tests are very thorough and they really make sure you are healthy enough to donate. My recovery was fairly quick and I was back to work in 2 weeks. Two weeks out of my life to give years to someone else - it wasn't a hard choice to make. I encourage people to look into living donation - whether it be for someone you know in your community or to a stranger. It is easier than you might think!

Don't miss this video!!
Imagine undergoing the removal of a kidney to save the life of a complete stranger. Karen Willis did just that, setting into motion a chain of giving.
These chains are lifesavers for kidney patients who have willing, but not matching, donors. The National Kidney Registry connects the people and transplant centers. Surgeons and living donors make the miracle happen.

Thank you. The process begins by answering a short series of general health questions with the transplant coordinator, Ashely, 858-554-4363.

The donor is allowed to reimburse for expenses such as child care. But honestly, not being able to lift up your child for 6 weeks is hard to imagine!

Thanks Kat, I wouldn't let you either. Eighteen is very young to undergo all the evaluation and testing. Plus the transplant team recommends that the donor have their own health insurance (it's not used for the transplant) and most young people do not. I hope someday you will follow through and get tested for someone. The wait list is growing daily.

Unfortunately, my mom still treats me like a child. And I'm not using the my-mom-won't-let-me excuse. You don't know me. And you don't know what my life is like. There's no point in standing up for myself because my mom controls my life. Period. Don't tell me what to do, because I already get enough of that from my mom.

Sorry! Thank you for your story! My son is also 27 years old and in need of transplant. Your story has brought about new ideas for me to assist my 27 year old son as well. Please feel free to contact us at b_sparljn@outlook.com. We would love to share our story as well - and become a part of Jenna's support group too! He is also type O; so we are very understanding of the issues that arise for those of this type. Thank you again for sharing. We hope to hear from you.
