Response I received from Dianne Feinstein, as sent (if you would like me to forward this to you, send me a message with your email address ... interesting how they altered the original message):
Thank you for writing to express your opposition to the ratification of the Inter-American Convention Against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (CIFTA). I appreciate hearing from you on this topic and welcome the opportunity to respond.
While I understand your concerns about the ratification of CIFTA, I strongly believe that the U.S. should act promptly to take up and ratify this convention. For many years, I have been concerned about the proliferation of firearms worldwide. From Afghanistan to Iraq, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Haiti, the proliferation of firearms and light other weapons undermines peace, stability, economic growth, and harms U.S. national security interests.
Specifically, the illicit trafficking of firearms from the U.S. has helped to exacerbate recent violence amid drug cartels in Mexico. Recent cCongressional testimony provided by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms & Explosives (ATF) revealed that approximately 90 percent of traced weaponsconfiscated firearms used by cartels come from thewere traced to the U.S. It is estimated that, with 2,000 guns per day crossing the border from the U.S. into Mexico. Further, 6,000 people were killed in Mexico last year due to drug-related violence, with another 1,000 people killed in January 2009 alone. I believe that the ratification of CIFTA will help to combat the threat of narcotics trafficking and illegal arms transfers in Mexico and Central America, and provide an unequivocal statement that the U.S. is serious about stemming the tide of weapons flowing into the region.
Again, thank you for writing. While we do not necessarily agree on this particular issue, your views are important to me, and I hope that you will continue to write on matters of importance to you. Should you have any further comments or questions, please feel free to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841.

Meninjamatt (4) - Do you know that the US government in the persona of BATFE defines an assault rifle as a machine gun, a weapon that can spray a continuous stream of bullets as long as the trigger is depressed? Do you know that machine guns have been restricted from even law abiding citizens since 1934? Do the criminals have these maching guns? Yes and at the risk of sounding trite, if you are going to let the criminals have them, I want one too. Continued
Meninjamatt (5) - I have had a concealed carry permit and have carried for 25 years. I have had several close calls but have never HAD to pull my pistol. I pray that I never do. But I choose to not be a victim nor will I allow my family to be victims. Do you know the rule prohibiting our armed forces from having their guns with them on post? One armed individual would have stopped the death toll at Fort Hood at 1 or 2, not 13. I hope you now believe I have something intelligent to say.
Sorry about that "unintelligent" assumption, I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to guns (guess it depends on where you're from), but it's like whenever I watch the national news there's some sort of gun related crime, and that's what makes me hate guns (when I think of "guns" i think of murder - I don't see it as saving people's lives.) but when you mentioned that incident, made me think about the positive side of guns (the saving lives part) and I thank you for that new perspective.
I am an NRA Certified Rifle Instructor. A few years I was running a BB gun range for our Cub Scout Day Camp. On parents day one young mom expressed concern on her son shooting a dangerous weapon. I laid a gun on the divider and asked the 8 year old Scouts how long woul it take for the gun to hurt someone. Finally one Cub said, "Mr. Tim, if no one touches it, it will never hurt anyone." continued
Americans use guns in self-defense 2.5 million times a year according to statistics. Nearly all gun violence happens in big cities and is gang or drug related. The safest state in the US is Vermont, which has the most liberal gun laws. DC has the strictest gun laws, and also the highest homicide rate. People like you with knee-jerk reactions and ignorant judgments are the problem, thank God only about 10% of the country agrees with you.
Hey man, I know I'm ignorant about guns - I'm only a high school student that lives in a < 100,000 populated community. Did you take the time to read all the comments btw?
"DC has the strictest gun laws, and also the highest homicide rate." haha funny, I don't see the correlation here, I don't think people kill there because there is strict gun laws but more because there are a lot of gangs there (maybe the the laws are strict there because of all the gang violence?)
My point is the strict laws have not made a difference, but in fact the homicide rate their continues to rise while the rest of the country's decline. 2008 was a 50 year low on homicide and violent crime, yet the gun laws are much more lenient now than back then. Disarming normal citizens give the bad guys the upper hand. Do some research on the UK and what happened after banning hand guns in 1997. Most gun control is racist in nature, and targets minorities in this country.
I was informed about the UK banning incident from one of the comments. Also I changed my point of view because of all those comments you see replied to me (so your comments aren't really necessary). Btw I was not talking about the laws on that comment I was talking about guns in general (I don't care about that legal stuff yet - didn't even watch the video haha)
