Meet CPT Ana Morgan, Internal Medicine Resident, and LTC Paul Mayer, Emergency Medicine Physician. CPT Morgan praises the abundance of training, research and mentorship opportunities she has experienced in her Army career. LTC Mayer values the unique and amazing opportunities he's had to expand his practice while feeling good that the work he does serves his country. Army doctors can focus on patient care without worrying about patient billings.

  • Most people actually take an army scholarship. they pay your full tuition, pay for any books or equipment and you receive a stipend while in school. You do have to go through a officers basic leadership course (OBLC) which is a 6 week program, but it is entirely different than "bootcamp." You will do 2 rotations at army hospitals while in school and that is your entire commitment until you graduate medical school. the name of the scholarship is HPSP and you can google it to find out more.

  • Yes, you do have to do training. Every commissioned officer in the armed forces does so.

  • Those are very interesting questions with simple answers. You don't need to go to bootcamp. Military residencies are for people who join the army and have an MD or DO. Lastly, the steps to be an army doctor are that you go to civilian medical school for 4 years, get your bachelor's degree, join the army, get your degree there and then you're an army doctor.

  • When I go to college, I'm looking into the medical field. It'd be cool to be a military medic/doctor. Does anyone know if you HAVE to go through bootcamp if you get into the medical field and join the army to be a doctor?

  • I am unsure if I will get a response from YouTube, but would a military residency be available for a student of a civilian medical school?

  • How does on become a military doctor? Im at a community college now taking my pre-reqs for nursing and then im off to finish my last two years at a civilian nursing school. After I get my bachelors I wanted to go to medical school but first i wanted to do army nursing and then become an army doctor.

What steps do I need to take to get there?
