The node module keeps track of the content information for things like who the author is that created that node, it keeps a record of behind the scenes stuff for Drupal versions 5, 6. The Drupal module also records what types of nodes you added as well as if there are any revisions that were made.
Drupal is a waste of your valuable time. If you are a Web developer I DO NOT RECOMMEND using Drupal. It has lots of errors, the statistics system is really dull, it is hard to use and it just provides you 15% of the things you need, the rest must be done by you (not much difference with building a site from scratch without a CMS). I've been working with Drupal several times, and never got a help from anyone, the community uses a "suit yourself philosophy". Try Joomla, Wordpress or something else
