http://www.beadsnjewelry.in - A Documentary on Indian Glass Bead Making. You can see how the artisans are designing & creating each and every bead in extreme hot. Also their pain, patience and hard work behind making of each and every bead.
this is quite a sad video with the poor working conditions but i agree with glassgirl, any bead left out of the flame that long and not annealed will eventually crack and the beads must be cleaned out fully.
If you're watching this because you buy lampwork glass beads please make sure beads you buy are made under good conditions for the maker and annealed. Annealing means the beads are placed in a kiln to cool slowly (not just put in a fibre blanket as here). Beads not annealed may crack in the future. They should also be cleaned thoroughly which can't be done by swishing in a bowl of water as the white powder you find inside uncleaned beads is not good for your health if you breathe it in.
And how much he does get paid for this? While the beads are lovely I feel so sad for this man...he is really talented.....and obviously works very hard with his disability.
It's a working day for him ...trying to survive...feeling blessed he has a job to go...they are not the right conditions to Lampwork but I am sure if he could afford it things would be different...he is just trying to survive...to the gentlemen in the video just please be careful...
No ventilation, no safety eye wear, bead release (the white clay stuff) all over, and bits of silver, and non-annealed beads. This is a disaster waiting to happen for the people working there.
Sad, very sad. Unfortunately, people actually buy these not knowing the inferior conditions and production methods used to make them. You always get what you pay for in the end.
Such beautiful work he does. I still feel bad that he prob. gets next to nothing. But he does have a good eye & amazing patience.

What is really sad, is the wedding cake beads that he is making sell for about $0.09 each.
