@JonMW I didn't really mean that lol, I meant that every note must be played with full awareness

@OfficialRedux To the "equal consideration" part specifically

@OfficialRedux Says fricking who?

@LudwigVonKoopa64 Nope, Art Tatum is still awesome. His music still inspires young musicians... Just like me :) I can't get enough of this ... Wonderful!

@Santosificationable technique or not, he could play it all on any piano, really. The thing is...in classical music, particularly cadenzas (very fast, almost improvised, or random sequences of notes), each note must be played evenly, with each note having equal consideration as every other note, at cres/decres, loud/quiet, etc. With Art Tatums style of play, he played cadenzas incredibly quickly, but also very lightly, magically, like kiss. And light-dipped pianos are perfect for that.

I'm wondering, is the piano actually light-dipped? I mean, are the keys "light" to touch? I read in a comment somewhere (in someone's video of him playing Tatum's "Begin the Beguine" or something) that Tatum preferred pianos with a light touch. Is it Tatum's technique, or is it merely the piano?

See, real music IS possible.
Guys stop the fighting! Jazz and Classical are the two smartest music art forms alive! They're both their own thing, and shouldn't really be compared. Just enjoy the music
