Today is the end of Oliver's first week at Ken McNabb's...we drove down to see how he was doing and had hoped to get to watch them working with Oliver, but it was not to be...they would be working with cattle all this week.

The facility sits at the base of some pretty foothills, down in a valley..I bet it is beautiful in the summer and fall! The indoor arena is HUGE, and still a work under construction, with wood planks for walk ways until the floors get finished in the office area and outter hallways. I will say this, it is one really NICE indoor arena! Wish I had one like it or even half it's size!

I spent a little time speaking with two of Ken McNabb's apprentices, mostly wih Robin, a nice young woman who hopes to be a trainer herself one day...she told me they really liked Oliver and that he was coming along very nicely :) They have only been working on his intial ground training and working on gaining his trust still....

The first thing I noticed is that Oliver had lost some weight, lol..he needed to though...he was a tank when we brought him there last week. He can't get away with chasing off the other horses there and eating their rations like he did at home. At least two of the other boys are stallions...Robin told me they quickly put Oliver in his place and they have all gotten along wonderfully since :) One young stallion in particular has taken a liking to Oliver and sticks to him like glue...poor fella...I think he has gender issues and thinks Oliver should be a mare...as you will see in the video, lol.

I was a little dissapointed in how Oliver looked when I saw him with all that dried sweat on him...the other horses looked the same...have they not brushed or curried them after working them or were they all just sweaty from playing hard in a warm indoor arena?

All the boys there were on arena turn-out time for play when we arrived, and the entire time we were there.

We plan to go back again around January 4th...Ken McNabb will also be holding a clinic during that week, so we hope to finally get to see them working with all of the horses...especially with Oliver! I STILL have not gotten to speak with Ken himself.
